Both teams started out playing good defense and neither team scored until the 5:35 mark when Pekin's Tom Lohmann made two free throws. Freeport countered with a bucket and the game was tied 2-2 at the 4:48 mark. Both teams traded baskets and the game was tied 4-4 at the 3:00 mark. Pekin's King then drove the lane to give Pekin a 6-4 lead. Freeport's Austin Davis made two free throws to tie the game 6-6. Freeport's Davis then hit another bucket to give Freeport the lead 8-6. Pekin's King then drove the lane for a layup at the buzzer to tie the game 8-8.

Pekin's Lohmann made the first bucket of the second quarter at 6:15 to give Pekin a 10-8 lead. Pekin then jumped out to a 12-8 lead only to have Freeport come right back with four points to tie the game 12-12. Pekin then answered with four points after a three by King to take the lead 16-12. Freeport answered with a bucket to make it 16-14. Freeport hit a three to get the score 18-17 Pekin. Pekin took a 21-17 lead at the 1:30 mark after a layup by King. Pekin's King then made two free throws and took a 23-18 lead into halftime.

Pekin maintained their 5 point lead 25-20 at the 6:00 mark. Freeport cut into the lead 25-22 at the 4:08 mark. Freeport's Norman hit two free throws to make it 25-24 at the 3:50 mark. Pekin scored 6 unanswered points to make it 31-24 at the 1:50 mark. Freeport then answered with a bucket to make it 31- 26 at 1:22. Freeport's Carroll hit a 3 with 9 seconds to play to make it a 34-29 Pekin lead and that is how the quarter ended.

Pekin's King converted a conventional three point play and increased the Pekin lead to 37-29 at 7:02. Pekin's Barnes hit a layup to make it 39-31 Pekin at 5:25. Freeport's Carroll then hit a three at 5:01 to cut the lead to 39-34. After an exchange of baskets Pekin led 41-36. Pekin still had a lead of five 43-38 at 3:42. Pekin's McClouth hit a pair of free throws to make it 45-38. Then Freeport answered with four unanswered points to cut the Pekin lead to 45-42 with 3:21 to play. Pekin's King then hit two free throws to make it 47-42. Pekin's Hoeniges hit two free throws to make it 49-42 at 1:50. Pekin's King then hit two free throws to make it 51-42. Freeport's Davis responded with a bucket at 1:15 to make it 51-44. Pekin's Lohmann was fouled quickly and he hit two freethrows to make it 53-44. Freeport responded with a quick three pointer and it was 53-47. Pekin's Hoeniges converted a three point play to make it 56-47. Freeport responded with a three to make it 56-50 at 45 seconds. Pekin's Hoeniges hit one of two freethrows to make it 57-50. Pekin's King went to the line at 30 seconds and made one of two to make it 58-50. The game ended with a 58-50 Pekin win.
