Normal West did not score a point until 2:38 left in the quarter. Mt. Carmel ran off the last 45 seconds and then scored a layup off a missed freethrow to end the quarter with a 16-5 lead.
Normal West opened the quarter with the first 6 points to narrow the lead to 16-11 at 5:38. Mt. Carmel got their first at the 4:37 mark to make it 19-11. Normal West closed the lead to 22-18 at :35. Mt. Carmel's Tracy Abrams converted a layup with two seconds left to give them a 24-18 lead at the half.
Normal West scored the first basket to cut the lead to 24-20. Mt. Carmel got their first basket at the 5:10 mark to make it 26-20. Normal West cut the lead to 27-24 at the 1:19 mark. Mt. Carmel hit the last shot at the buzzer to end the third quarter with a 29-24 lead.
Mt. Carmel extended the lead to 34-26 at the 6:30 mark. Normal West then closed the lead to 34-29 at 4:54. Mt. Carmel extended the lead to 39-30 with 2:31 to play. Normal West's Troy Walls fouled out with 1:45 to play. Mt. Carmel's Don McAvoy hit one of the free throws to make the lead 42-30. Normal West's Bradley Hallstein hit two threes to cut the lead to 44-36 with :45 to play. After an exchange of a free throw and a basket Mt. Carmel still led 45-38 with 28 seconds to play.
