Geneseo Maple Leafs 46, Plainfield East Bengals 45 Double OT
The Bengals' Bennett got the offensive rebound, which resulted in a 2 point layup to start the game at the 7:41 mark. Baskets were exchanged to tie the score at 4 by the 6:09 mark. The Bengals strung two baskets together to take a 4 point lead at the 3:34 mark, 8-4. Depauw's 3 pointers with 2:15 on the clock made it a one point game, 8-7 Plainfield. A basket by Denney with 53 second left gave the Maple Leafs 9-8 lead going into the 2nd quarter.
Straughter opened the 2nd quarter with a 3 pointer just 23 second in, and regained the lead for the Bengals, 11-9. Baskets were exchanged before Geneseo called a timeout at 3:45 mark, 15-11. Goffinet increase the lead by one when he made one of two free throws at the 1:48 mark. The Leafs' Staab drove the lane from the top of the key to cut the lead 3 at the 1:19 mark. The Bengals' Robinson put a layup in with 26 seconds left. Plainfield made it to the line with 2 seconds left to no avail. And that's the way the half ended, 18-13 Bengals.
A break away by the Bengals' Walters started the scoring in the second half, 20-13 at the 7:21 mark. After exchange of baskets the Maple Leafs called a timeout at 6:08 mark, 22-15. The next minute produced 2 points for both teams, 24-17 at the 5:08 mark. The Bengals increased their lead by 5 points by 3:48 mark, which included a conventional 3 point play by Straughter. The last 3:47 seconds of the quarter produced one basket by the Maple Leafs' Denney at the 3:17 mark. The 3rd quarter ended 29-19 Plainfield.
The bottom of the nets saw no action for the first 1:25 of the quarter, when Geneseo called a timeout. A technical foul was called on a Maple Leaf player at the 6:20 mark. The Bengals sent Brown to the line where he made one of two, for the first points in the 4th quarter, 30-19 Bengals. The Maple Leafs' Denney made a trip to the line and converted both free throws, 30-21 at the 5:18 mark. The Bengals added 4 more points before Geneseo's Denney drained a 3 pointer at the 4:11 mark, 34-24. Geneseo called a timeout. The score was 36-25 before Croegaert drained a 3 pointer and the Leafs called a timeout, 36-28 at the 2:31 mark. Bennett converted a 3 point play at 2:19 mark to increase the lead to 39-28. The Maple Leafs closed the gap to 39-32 with 1:24 left on the clock. The Bengals called a timeout. With 1:13 on the clock, Croegaert a 3 pointer to draw within 4. The Maple Leafs where out of timeouts and could stop the clock, so they fouled the Bengals. They missed both free throws. Depauw pulled up drained a 3 pointer with 33 seconds on the clock, 41-38. The Leafs got the ball back and ran the floor. The clock showed 15 second when Croegaert let the ball fly, all net, 41-41. Timeout is called by the Bengals with 8 second on the clock. Balls inbounded, they drive the lane, it up and off the rim……..it’s on to overtime.
Brown struck first at the 3:40 mark, 43-41 Bengals. Croegaert brought the game even at 3:15 mark, at 43. The Bengals were awarded a technical foul from Depauw of Geneseo. The Bengals Goffinet was unable to make either free throw at the 2:28 mark. The Maple Leafs controlled the ball for the next 2:08 seconds, when a shot was attempted and missed. Bengals ran the length of the floor and were unable to convert. The game went into double overtime, at 43 apiece.
After a couple of turnovers the Bengals Straughter took the ball back down the court and converted, 45-43 at the 2:50 Bengals. Geneseo called a timeout. Fisher went to the foul line on a double bonus, making the first free throw 45-44 Bengals at the 1:55 mark. Plainfield controlled the ball till 1:18 and called a timeout. The clock had run down to the 48 second mark when the Bengals called a timeout. Plainfield turned the ball over. The Maple Leafs ran the clock down to the 19.3 second mark and called their second timeout in the double overtime period. The ball is inbounded and shot fired………..off the rim. Offensive rebound by Staab, put back goes in with 5 second. Inbound by the Bengals……………down the floor to just beyond the arc. The shot is fired………it's off the mark. The Maple Leafs win, 46-45!!
